Multivalent Press does not accept unsolicited manuscripts. We also do not place limiting barriers in the way of talented authors.
We are a small publishing group, so we publish a limited number of titles in a year. That means we are looking for only exceptional books and authors.
We do not require authors to be represented by a literary agent. We do expect that the author has dedicated a significant amount of effort to cultivating her or his craft before approaching us.
Since our time is as limited as everyone else’s, we try to be efficient when getting to know a new author.
We are open to multiple genres, but we will not publish hate, or anything which has partisan politics or sexual orientation as a primary focus. Please do not pitch us works that contain graphic sex, gore, or gratuitous violence.
First, we will want to hear only your elevator pitch. If that piques our interest, we will ask you about your experience, and request a writing sample. If that seems good, we may ask to see the first chapter of your manuscript.
If an author fails to adhere to the proper steps in the process, we will read that as an indication that the author may be difficult to work with. If the author is not cooperative in the earliest communications, it is very unlikely we will choose to work with that author. We have a team mentality. We all work together toward one goal: Successfully connecting the author with a loyal readership. Below are the instructions for beginning our simple process.
- Contact us via e-mail, at Information@multivalentpress.com, with the words “submission request” as the subject line. The body of the e-mail should contain your elevator pitch for the book you are proposing. Be sure to include the type of work, and the genre of the work. For example, fiction/thriller or non-fiction/inspirational. The entire e-mail should contain only 20-100 words.
- We will review the submission request and respond, telling you whether or not we are interested in seeing more. If we don’t feel the project fits our mission at this point in time, that is the end of the process. If we are interested in seeing more of your work, we will request a writing sample, with specific guidelines for submission. Thank you, and we wish you the very best success with your writing!
